Safari Overview
The Southern Circuit of Tanzania offers a remote and authentic safari experience, highlighted by the diverse ecosystems of Mikumi National Park and the vast wilderness of Nyerere National Park (formerly Selous Game Reserve). Mikumi, located near Morogoro and easily accessible from Dar es Salaam, features landscapes often compared to the Serengeti, with open savannahs, acacia woodlands, and the Mkata River floodplains. It hosts a rich variety of wildlife including elephants, giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, buffaloes, and rare species such as sable antelope and African wild dogs, alongside over 400 bird species.
Further south, Nyerere National Park stands as one of Africa’s largest protected areas and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, renowned for its unspoiled landscapes, including grasslands, wetlands, and miombo woodlands. The park supports an exceptional diversity of wildlife such as lions, elephants, hippos, crocodiles, and endangered species like black rhinos and painted dogs. Unique activities such as walking safaris and boat excursions along the Rufiji River enhance the experience, offering a more intimate connection with nature.
